Recap - Swim for Them 2010

The inaugural Swim for Them is in the books, and it has been a humbling experience for all three swimmers.  I cannot begin to express my gratitude to everyone who made our first event such a success - from financial supporters to event sponsors to the friends and family who cheered us on.

Three swimmers logged a total of 30 km (33,000 yards; 1,320 pool lengths) in roughly four hours, raising a cumulative $4,420 $4,645 for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation and St. Jude Children's Hospital.  Kimberly Wellman and Cynthia Perdue transformed the simplicity of watching someone swim back and forth for hours into a compelling drop-in style event.  And the applause that greeted each swimmer upon completion of his 10K was an emotional high for everyone who participated.  I hope I can speak for the three swimmers when I say that every single training stroke was worth the final payoff.

Thanks to Cynthia Perdue, we have a short video and some great photos from the event.  Check out the video below, and click over to the photo gallery at your leisure.

This will wrap it up for Swim for Them 2010.  For any late-coming donors, our fundraising pages will still work for a few more weeks.  Also, our stats are logged in the archive for posterity.  We have some ideas cooking for 2011, so be on the lookout midway through next year.  If you'd like to join us, shoot me an email!  It's never too early.  :-)

Peace <><
