About Swim for Them

Swim for Them is a charitable event in which swimmers raise funds for causes that inspire their passions. Swim for Them 2014 will be held in the Kingsport Aquatic Center on September 13, 2014.

Founded in 2010, Swim for Them has grown from 3 participants to 48 in 2013, raising over $68,500 for many charities along the way.

Swim for Them is about empowering swimmers to make a difference, creating support opportunities for our community, inspiring our children to help their neighbors in creative ways, and serving a loving God through loving action.

We host an annual event where swimmers conduct personal fundraisers for causes of their own choosing and then gather together to swim endurance challenges ranging from 1k to 10k.

How it works:
  • Participating swimmers choose their cause and target event distance.
  • Each swimmer creates a personal online fundraising portal with Razoo, an industry-leading charitable donation portal. These individual fundraisers are united under the Swim for Them banner. Funds contributed through Razoo are routed directly to the receiving charities.
  • Swimmers gain motivation to train, improved personal health via long-distance swimming, and the mountaintop experience of completing a difficult task in the name of helping others.
  • Local, national, and international organizations receive needed support and donor visibility.
Swim for Them is organized as a mission of Mafair UMC. Hosting the Swim for Them event involves small expenses (pool use, lifeguards, etc.), and having Swim for Them under the umbrella of Mafair UMC enables tax-deductible contributions toward covering these costs.
